 Hon. Pablo Marin

 Minister of Health

As Belize strives to develop a strong engine of sustainable economic growth, it is the role of the Ministry of Health to ensure a better quality of life for all Belizeans. The Ministry’s role is to maintain an environment that is conducive to good health and wellness within a framework that ensures equity, quality and accessibility. Our community-based programs must function pro-actively to promote prevention. Our medical services must operate within national established standards, norms and protocols to improve the services provided to customers.

The Ministry of Health is presently undergoing a reform aimed at improving its effectiveness and efficiency. The Ministry is focusing its energies on three major areas: Health Reform, Quality Improvement and Caring for its Care Providers.

The Ministry of Health’s Vision Statement:

“We envision a national health care system which is based upon:

  • equity
  • affordability
  • accessibility
  • quality
  • sustainability
  • in effective partnership with all levels (sectors) of government and the rest of society in order to develop and maintain an environment conducive to health.”

    A Message from the CEO
    Nov 19, 2005 at 07:34 AM

Most Ministries of Health do not truly preside over health systems as such - they preside over systems that provide treatment for the illnesses that they have been unable to prevent. Most of the things that people get sick and die from every day are preventable and the people who most frequently suffer from these preventable ailments are the poor and the vulnerable. While retaining our focus on the delivery of quality health care services to the individual, we must also fight to promote 'wellness' in our general population. This is a challenge which no organisation can accomplish alone. We must build partnerships between government and non government agencies, the private sector and local communities. Working together we can identify innovative and effective solutions to better serve our people. On behalf of all the dedicated Belizeans who strive to provide quality health care services around the clock to all our people, welcome to the official web site of the Ministry of Health. Your thoughts, ideas and comments are also welcome as we continuously strive to improve the service that we offer.
