The Ministry of Health (Western Health Region) once again has embarked on a partnership initiative with the United States Military Liaison Office in improving the Health of communities through Medical Team Visits and services.
In light of the above, the Medical Readiness Training (MEDRETE) which comprised of the US Air Force offered services on Tuesday March 2nd and Wednesday March 3rd, 2010 in the villages of St. Margaret and Armenia respectively. The Medrete Team was supported by the presence of Medical and Public health personnel from the Western Region. The MEDRETE Team was comprised of: 1 Dentist, 2 General Practitioners and 2 Public Health Educators. The Western Health Region Team was comprised of a medical officer, dentist, dental assistant, psychiatric nurse practitioner, environmental assistant-vector control, rural health nurses, health educator and community health worker.
The MEDRETE Team commenced work in the village of St. Margaret where they provided the following services to a total of 258 villagers: Pap Smear, Dental services and General checkup. Health education was given to all persons who accessed the services in the following areas: personal hygiene, tobacco, hypertension, dengue, malaria, environmental sanitation and mental health illness.
The team worked in the community of Armenia on March 3, 2010 where services were provided to a total of 326 persons. The Western Health Region, Ministry of Health expressed it gratitude to the MEDRETE team for its continued collaboration in providing services to the people of Belize
