The Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Drug Abuse Control Council and the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) conducted a consultation workshop to develop a draft National Alcohol Policy for Belize on Tuesday, November 22nd at the Central Health Region Office conference room (Old Nursing School) Belize City.

The main objective of the consultation was to define guidelines to reduce alcohol related harm such as drunk driving and public misbehaviour and also to serve as a guide in the development of a national draft policy.

The main facilitator for the workshop was Dra. Mariestela G. Monteiro, Senior Advisor, Alcohol and Substance Abuse, PAHO Washington. Other presenters include Dr. Alfonso Ayala, Alcohol Policy Consultant and Dra. Claudina Cayetano, Psychiatrist, Mental Health Program, Ministry of Health.
