"The total reported number of new infections in this quarter keeps the same average that has been reported inprevious quarters at 117 new cases but the number of AIDS cases reported falls under the expected average for any given quarter with only 13 cases being reported. This brings the total number of documented HIV cases to a total of 1,093 since the beginning of the epidemic in 1986.
The prevalence rate however, has fluctuated within the different districts with a prevalence rate seemingly high for all districts with the Belize District still documenting the highest total number of cases but the Cayo District now documented the second highest number in the country, a pattern that we are just starting to discern over the last couple of quarters. The male to female ratio remains at 1:1 with the highest number of new cases still happening in the age group of those 20-39 years with the same ratio documented for both males and females."
