Public Health

The Public Health Program is one of the preventative programs of the Ministry of Health and Wellness which is mandated to foster healthy living and working conditions for the Belizean population.  This is guided by collaboration with related sectors (ministries, departments, units, organization and communities) through intra and multi-sectorial coordination and participation. There are 9 Public Health Offices countrywide with locations in Corozal Town, Orange Walk Town, Belize City, San Pedro, Belmopan, San Ignacio, Dangriga, Independence and Punta Gorda.  The department is headed by Mr. John Bodden, Principal Public Health Inspector in the Ministry of Health and Wellness.   

The main areas of services include: Food Safety, Sea and Airport Health, Drinking Water Testing and plant approvals, solid waste management (domestic), Institution Health, Environmental Sanitation, Communicable Disease Investigation, Rabies Control, Complaints Investigation and prosecution of offenders.
